Harrogate Fine Art Collection at the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate holds the work of photographic pioneers Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879) and Roger Fenton (1819-1869). The photographic collection is wide-ranging and can act as a fascinating time capsule, exposing a broad range of past social, political, landscape and natural history narratives. The physical photographs have their own technical histories embedded within the early analogue photographic materials, processes and methodologies. For Landmarks (2016) selections were made from mainly anonymous stereoscopic views of familiar northern landscapes and still life natural history arrangements.
